Sunflowers cheer people up and brighten any garden or field.
Please note that the 1 kg field size is now sold out.
They attract a huge amount of bees and insects in the summer and sunflower seeds are highly nutritious for the birds as well as being edible and healthy for human consumption. The finches will clean out the seeds in the autumn as soon as they ripen. Sunflowers often grow up to 2 metres high and they do best in rich soil and in a dry sunny position.
Sunflowers are easy to grow, and their head-turning height and sunny disposition make them a lovely part of any garden or wildflower meadow.
Our high-quality sunflower seeds will give you a colourful display this summer. Don’t be in a hurry to sow them too early because they need soil temperatures to be high to germinate. Sow from the middle of April onwards into a well-prepared, deep seedbed. The seeds need to be buried to around 4cms deep. As the seedlings germinate, slugs will devour the whole plant if they are not controlled. After germination, rabbits are the next problem. The sunflower seeds come from the suppliers treated with Fludioxonyl, which is a general-purpose fungicide so wash your hands after handling.
But once you have got past these two pests, you will have gorgeous sunflowers adding brightness and cheer to your garden or field as only sunflowers can! Use them to create a bee-friendly and bird-friendly garden that pleases the eye too.
